One of my favorite PlayStation games of all-time has to be Resident Evil 3. I can vividly remember skipping school just to play the game, and how intense the gameplay was at the time. Survival horror was still a relatively growing genre, and there were still so many avenues and concept yet to be explored. With Capcom already hard at work on remastering Resident Evil 2, it would only seem right that 3 would follow, right?
Recently, a resetera forum moderator posted earlier this week that he had inside sources who revealed a Nemesis remake is already in full development, even with RE2 releasing next month.
“I’m keeping my lips sealed on anything else so don’t ask, but REmake 3 is in full development right now. I think beyond that they’re waiting to see how REmake 2 and REmake 3 perform, but REmake 2 almost assuredly is going to perform well.”
It’s hard to take this rumor with more than a grain of salt, but it is worth noting that the moderator has a reputation on the forum for successfully predicting previous Capcom announcements before they’ve happened.
The whole story sounds crazy at first, but then fans will also have to consider that Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi also recently said that the company was working on a “surprising” new project. Capcom has already stated during its recent quarterly earnings call that it would be interested in exploring other remakes of some of its past titles.
“Further, regarding remakes and re-releases of titles in our back catalog, we expect to explore these further with a variety of properties as a part of our strategy to utilize our library of IP.”
It was also stated on the call that it is already anticipating the RE2 remake to be a multimillion-dollar hit. If the company is already expecting big business for the second game, why wouldn’t it also cash in on the third? Plus, it is cheaper to “remaster” or “remake” an older title than build an entirely new one from the ground up.
We for one and hoping that this rumor is true since we absolutely loved this game and hope to hear an announcement by E3.
