The Deuce Season 2 Episode 9 Recap
In the previous episode of HBO’s The Deuce, Bobby and Frankie killed C.C., and Lori went with Kiki to LA. The Deuce season 2 episode 9 opened with the premiere of Red Hot.
Paranoia
Lori had anxiety at the premiere. She threw up and did coke in the bathroom beforehand. Lori was worried C.C. would show up. No one knew C.C. was dead except for the people who were there. Larry helped her through the crowd, and they applauded her. Her anxiety came to a head at Kiki’s. She was refusing to go to the LA premiere without C.C.’s permission. Frankie told her that C.C. was dead, and she cried laughing in relief. Lori made it to LA where Greg picked her up in a fancy car.
Professionals
Harvey showed Eileen a glowing review of Red Hot at the premiere. Unfortunately, Eileen overheard Russell bragging about having sex with her to old school friends, which dampened the event. She broke up with him as they were cutting trailers. Harvey showed them VHS tapes fresh from CES. They were the future of the porn industry. He also told her that she would be on a late-night talk show promoting Red Hot. However, Eileen seemed to be the butt of the jokes.
Frankie’s deals caught up to him. Rudy and Ianniello approached Harvey over their cuts of the movie. To compensate, none of the producers were getting paid. Eileen figured it was okay. She would use the movie to make a name for herself to make future movies. Unfortunately, her son was beat up in school over her talk show appearance, and Eileen’s father wouldn’t let her see Adam.
“I Know This One”
Neither Abby nor Loretta saw Dorothy in a while. Alston was called to a dead body, and it was Dorthy. Homicide detectives asked Loretta about her. Loretta assumed Larry had killed her. Larry thought it was C.C., explaining that was why he was missing. Loretta told Abby, and Vincent claimed Dorothy’s body from the city for burial.
When Alston realized the dead body was the girl he knew as “Ashley”, he went to McDonagh. He would help Goldman with conditions. Alston would let the police and city know what was happening, if they removed the Vice cops from the group. Alston was promoted to Sergeant. Unfortunately, Officer Haddix got shot in the line of duty, so he couldn’t be moved. Goldman hinted to Alston that the overall goal would be to push the sex-related businesses out of the Deuce for profitable ventures.
Roles
Donna was working in Renton’s sister’s clothing shop. A customer recognized her from porn, and she kicked him out. Renton asked her about it, and she told him the truth. He accepted it and walked her to class. Larry found her paycheck in a book she was reading, and she insisted it was all hers. Donna moved out of Larry’s place, hoping they would never see each other again.
