During BlizzCon 2018, Jeff Kaplan and the Overwatch team announced hero number 29, “Ashe.” Ashe is a thief and leader of the Deadlock Gang, and if you don’t know, the Deadlock Gang is a group that’s usually tied with Jesse McCree.
Description of the new Overwatch character:
“Ashe is the ambitious and calculating leader of the Deadlock Gang and a respected figure in the criminal underworld. Born into a wealthy family, Ashe grew up surrounded by privilege. Her parents were highly sought-after business consultants and coaches for powerful CEOs around the world. Though her parents paid little attention to her (mostly leaving her in the care of the family’s omnic butler, Bob), they ensured that Ashe had every opportunity to succeed. But a chance meeting with a local ruffian named Jesse McCree, and an impromptu string of crimes committed together opened her eyes to her true calling. The satisfaction of outwitting her targets and the thrill of getting away with it set her on the outlaw path.”
Ashe will be fitting into the “Damage” role with her primary weapon being her semi-automatic rifle called “Viper.” Her rifle has two modes of fire, the first being quick-fire shots and the second fire mode allowing players to aim down the sights for a more accurate and lethal shot.
Ashes first ability will let her throw “Dynamite” which will explode after a short delay, or if you shoot it fast enough. The explosion will set nearby enemies on fire which will deal damage over a period of time. The “Dynamite” ability can be utilized to clear out capture points or deal some heavy damage in choke points. It can also be used to set up a coordinated push with your team to overwhelm and overtake the enemy team.
Her second ability is called “Coach Gun,” a short double-barrelled shotgun that serves two purposes. The coach gun can knock back oncoming enemies, as well as use it to propel Ashe in certain directions to give her added mobility. The Coach Gun can be utilized to possibly knock back Genji when he’s attacking with his Ultimate, or stop a charging Reinhardt, Winston, or even Doomfist.
Ashe’s Ultimate calls upon her trusted omnic sidekick B.O.B. When Ashe summons B.O.B, the giant robot will come in charging towards enemies, and once he reaches them, he’ll use his brute strength to knock enemies up into the air. Once they’re airborne, B.O.B will lay down a barrage of fire from his arm cannons. Calling upon B.O.B can lead to some well-coordinated ultimate combos. At first impression, Ashe’s ultimate can be paired with Wrecking Ball’s Minefield Ultimate or McCree’s High Noon.
There’s no date on when Ashe will be available to all players for all platforms, but for Overwatch players on PC, Ashe is now available on the PTR for you to try out and see how she can fit into your meta.
