CW Orders More Scripts for All American, Charmed Reboot, and Legacies

CW orders more scripts for All American, Charmed Reboot, and Legacies

The CW has requested additional script orders for all three of its new series, All American, Charmed, and Legacies, per Deadline. The move obviously reflects the network’s confidence in the upcoming shows, all of which have yet to premiere.

Per the report, the last time the CW did such a thing was in September of 2014 when it ordered additional scripts for The Flash and Jane the Virgin, both of which went on to find tremendous success.

All American, inspired by the life of NFL player Spencer Paysinger, stars Daniel Ezra (Prey), Taye Diggs (Empire), Briana Lane (NCIS), and Jordan Belfi (Entourage) and premieres Wednesday, October 10 on The CW.

Spencer James (Ezra) is a rising high school football player and A student at South Crenshaw High. Compton is the place he calls home. But when Beverly High School’s football coach Billy Baker (Diggs) recruits him to join the team in Beverly Hills, Spencer’s mother, Grace (Karimah Westbrook), and his best friend, Coop (Bre-Z), convince Spencer it’s an opportunity he has to seize. Now Spencer must navigate two worlds — the south side neighborhood that he knows and the affluent Beverly Hills world that has offered him an opportunity for something bigger.

Charmed is based on a story by Jennie Urman (creator of Jane the Virgin), who executive produced with Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin (Jane the Virgin writers). Brad Silberling (Jane the VirginDynastyReign) directs and also executive produces along with Ben Silverman. The series premiere will air on October 14 on The CW.

The original Charmed, launched on the now-defunct The WB channel, ran for eight seasons and 178 episodes. It followed the adventures of three Halliwell sisters, Prue (Shannen Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs) and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), who discover that their family is part of a long line of powerful witches. Doherty left the series at the conclusion of the third season. The finale saw Prue die, but it was revealed at the beginning of the fourth season that the Halliwells had a hidden half-sister, Paige (Rose McGowan), who joined the headlining cast from then on.

Legacies is the next chapter of The Vampire Diaries/The Originals trilogy from executive producer/writer Julie Plec. It tells the story of the next generation of supernatural beings at The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, where 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson, played by Danielle Rose Russell, and others come of age in the most unconventional way possible, nurtured to be their best selves in spite of their worst impulses all under the watchful eye of headmaster Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis). The series will premiere on October 25.

Plec co-writes and executive produces with Brett Matthews. Leslie Morganstein and Gina Girolamo also executive produce. Legacies is produced by Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, in association with My So-Called Television and Alloy Entertainment.
