Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 earns $500 million in three days

The latest entry into the hit shooter franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, has been out for almost a week, but in its first three days the game has already set a new record for Activision with over $500 million grossed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Having earned over half a billion dollars in its first three days of release, Black Ops 4 has set the record for the biggest digital launch for Activision, surpassing last year’s Call of Duty: WWII, which eventually crossed $1 billion with a month of release. The physical sales did, however, set a new record for the lowest in the series in over a decade since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is described as a gritty, grounded, all-out combat experience that raises the bar for Multiplayer mode, increasing tactical gameplay and player choice along with the biggest Zombies offering ever with three full experiences at launch, and Blackout, where the Black Ops universe comes to life in a massive battle royale experience featuring iconic characters and locations from all four Black Ops games in a one-of-a-kind offering that is uniquely Black Ops.

Fans have been eager for more Call of Duty: Black Ops, which has become one of the most popular subseries of games in the overall franchise. The previous three games in the Black Ops series debuted in 2010,  2012, and 2015 respectively, and combined have sold over 86 million copies worldwide in addition to receiving critical acclaim. Black Ops originally took place in the 1960s era Cold War, with its sequel jumping to 2025 and the third game landing in 2065. The most recent entry in the series dialed back the action from a modern or future setting to the big one with Call of Duty: WWII.
