King Kong was made infamous on the big screen, but soon he will be making a big impression on Broadway. Christiani Pitts (A Bronx Tale) will be following in the footsteps of actresses playing opposite the giant ape like Fay Wray, Jessica Lange and Naomi Watts. In the Broadway musical, Pitts will be playing Ann Darrow, a character who was played by Wray in the classic 1933 film. The production has released a new video where people will get to see Pitts and the giant ape behind the scenes during a photo shoot.

The show is able to bring Kong to life thanks to robotics, puppetry and stagecraft.

Shows for King Kong starts on Friday, October 5, with an opening night event on Thursday, November 8 at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway, New York).

Joining Pitts are Eric William Morris (Mamma Mia!) as Carl Denham and Erik Lochtefeld (Misery, Metamorphoses) as Lumpy.

The musical is written by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) with Marius de Vries (La La Land, Moulin Rouge) composing the score and Eddie Perfect (Beetlejuice) working on songs. Drew McOnie (Strictly Ballroom The Musical) directs the stage musical.

Synopsis: Based on the 1932 novel, the stage production of King Kong is a contemporary take on the classic tale of beauty and the beast. The story follows a young actress, Ann Darrow, and a maverick filmmaker, Carl Denham, as they voyage from the bustling streets of 1930s New York to an uncharted island to capture the world’s greatest wonder. At the center of this 21st-century reimagining: a 20-foot high, 2,000-pound gorilla brought to life by a team of seamlessly integrated artists and technicians. King Kong is a larger-than-life encounter with a legend that’s always been too big to contain.
