Golden Globes: NBC signs eight-year contract to air awards ceremony

NBC has announced they’ve signed an eight-year contract with The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Productions to air The Golden Globes for the next eight years. The network has aired the ceremony for the past 23 years, with the new deal going into effect with the upcoming January 6th telecast.

Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment said that the network will “look forward to airing the Golden Globe Awards on NBC for the next eight years at least. We’ve been the proud home of the Globes since 1996, and over those decades we’re honored to have been part of its transformation into Hollywood’s most joyous awards ceremony. And this year will be no different.

Meher Tatna, the president of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association said that members “are delighted to continue our long association with NBC. We are looking forward to celebrating our 24th show together on Jan. 6.”

The awards ceremony honors both film and TV, and is often referred to as Hollywood’s ‘Party of the Year.’

Last year, The Golden Globe Awards telecast averaged a 5.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 19 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. That night, The Golden Globes helped push NBC beat all competition in the ratings, including the into the NFL playoffs.
