Shooter cancelled by USA Network, could be picked up elsewhere
Variety has reported that USA Network has cancelled Shooter in the midst of its third season. However, if you are a fan of the series, don’t despair.
It has been revealed that Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions are in the process of shopping the show around for a potential fourth season. There’s a chance that it might be picked up by Paramount Network.
The cancellation comes after a steep drop in ratings, with the show’s third season averaging currently a 0.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 738,000 viewers per episode. USA Network is also in the process of bringing on more original pieces and is in the midst of a show ordering spree. Earlier this year, the network had announced that they had ordered four drama pilots, including one set in the Jason Bourne universe.
Based on the bestselling novel “Point of Impact” by Stephen Hunter and the 2007 Paramount film starring Mark Wahlberg, Shooter follows the journey of Bob Lee Swagger (Ryan Phillippe), a highly-decorated veteran who is coaxed back into action to prevent a plot to kill the President. When Swagger’s former commanding officer, Isaac Johnson (Omar Epps), solicits his expertise for a clandestine operation, Swagger discovers that he has been framed and must do everything in his power to protect his family and clear his name.
Wahlberg serves as an executive producer on the series via his Closest to the Hole Productions. Stephen Levinson of Leverage Entertainment and Lorenzo di Bonaventura also executive produce along with John Hlavin, who wrote the pilot. Phillippe is also a producer.
