Melissa Rosenberg, the creator of Netflix’s acclaimed Marvel series Jessica Jones, will be leaving the series following the conclusion of production on the third season for an eight figure deal at Warner Bros. Television, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rosenberg was the center of a competitive bidding war between the two studios and though Rosenberg was reportedly looking to do something different, the streaming service had no interest in losing her, given the acclaim that Jessica Jones has received in its two seasons.

“All of my attention remains with the extraordinary cast, writers and production team of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, until the completion of season three,” Rosenberg said to THR. “It continues to be a career highlight working with my partners at Marvel Television and Netflix. We’re extraordinarily grateful to the viewers who have supported us every step of the way on Jessica’s journey, which is so beautifully realized by Krysten Ritter and the amazing cast including Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville and Carrie-Anne Moss. We have so many talented storytellers in every area of this show, who I’m honored to call friends and collaborators. As I look ahead after this season, I’m thrilled that I will be able to explore new projects with the talented team at Warner Bros. Television and push myself in new challenging creative directions.”

If Jessica Jones were to be renewed for a fourth season, a new showrunner would have to take over while Rosenberg’s name would remain on the series as creator and executive producer, while her new multi-year deal will see her create and develop new projects for the indie studio.

Rosenberg is also known for her work on other small screen hits including Hercules: The Legendary JourneysBoston PublicAlly McBealThe O.C. and Dexter, as well as providing the scripts for all five of the Twilight films. No return date is currently set for Jessica Jones, but production began at the end of June, so the third season can be expected to premiere sometime late next summer.
