It Follows director to pen They Hear It for Legendary
It Follows director David Robert Mitchell will stay in the realm of horror for his next project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Indie auteur will pen the screenplay for the adaptation of horror short They Hear It for Legendary Entertainment. According to the report, the expanded feature will use Alfred Hitchcocks The Birds and the adaptation of Stephen King’s It as touchstones.
There’s a twist to the story, however, as Mitchell won’t take up residence behind the lens for this one. Instead, directing duties will fall to Julian Terry, the writer-director behind the original short film Mitchell’s script will be based on.
They Hear It is described as a high concept story about an ominous presence that stalks the children of a small town by emitting a mysterious noise called The Sound that attracts younger people, presumably to their doom.
This will be Terry’s first crack at a feature film, as he has spent the last five years building his resume with short films such as Whisper and The Nurse. The latter won the grand prize for The Conjuring Universe Short Film Contest, created by David F. Sandberg in collaboration with Warner Bros.
Jon Silk (Terminator Salvation) and Blake Avery will oversee They Hear It for Legendary, while The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman (The Gunman) and Andrew Rona (Equilibrium) will serve as producers, with Jacob Chase (Larry) serving as executive producer.
Mitchell’s next film Under the Silver Lake, starring Andrew Garfield, is set to hit theaters December 7.
