The symbiotes come out to play in new Venom trailer

Venom

It’s been several months since we’ve last seen or heard from the Venom film. However, if you were at Hall H during the Sony Pictures panel then you know what you’re about to watch. Today, the Comic-Con trailer for Venom is finally public. With the film coming out in less than three months, one would only assume that they would be done with most of the CG. As a result, the trailer features our first really good look at Venom and the other symbiotes in the film. Check it out!

Now, there’s been a lot of controversy lately surrounding the iconic symbol on Venom’s chest. “Because our character does not originate from Spider-Man, it makes no sense to put a spider on his chest,” says director Ruben Fleischer. “We tried to be as accurate as we possibly could, even though some people feel it’s inaccurate, but there is a lot of white and we wanted to give him a distinctive pattern.”

Which, oddly enough, does make a lot of sense. Especially since Spider-Man won’t be a part of this Venom universe. Because of their deal with Marvel Studios, Spider-Man won’t be able to face off with Venom in the films. The only way that’ll happen is Sony backs out of their deal with Disney and puts him in his own universe again. So, we fans have a choice, see Spider-Man play within the MCU or join the Spider-Verse once again.

In addition to Venom, we also got a chance to see Riz Ahmed’s character. No, he’s not playing Carnage as most of us thought. However, he is playing the symbiote Riot. The character was a big part of the Lethal Protector storyline, the main inspiration for the film’s storyline.

In it, Riot was one of the creations of the Life Foundation. Now, Riot didn’t fuse with Ahmed’s Carlton Drake character in the comics. Instead, it fused with Trevor Cole, one of the security guards working at the Life Foundation.

One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

Venom fuses with theaters on October 5th.
