New The Crown season 3 photos featuring Helena Bonham Carter
Netflix has released more official images of the new cast of The Crown! Yesterday the streaming service released the first photo of Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth (seen here) and today they’ve given us a first look at Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Daniels as Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong-Jones respectively. Carter and Daniels will take over the roles of the troubled couple from Emmy nominated Vanessa Kirby and Matthew Goode. Check out the photos in the gallery below!
On her casting as Princess Margaret, Carter previously said, “I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about—doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby. The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter than Vanessa.”
Following his announcement, Ben Daniels said, “After being glued to the first two seasons of The Crown I am beyond thrilled to be joining the cast of this incredible piece of television. Snowdon was such a dynamic and complex man, I’m really looking forward to playing him.”
The third season of The Crown will see the entire cast aging up. Along with Coleman, Carter, and Daniels, Tobias Menzies will take over for Matt Smith who played Prince Philip during the first two seasons. Prince Charles and Princess Anne will also grow older with Josh O’Connor and Erin Doherty filling in those roles.
According to creator Peter Morgan, season three of The Crown will take place during 1964 and 1972 and is expected to cover major events in British history, like Princess Margaret’s affair with Roddy Llewellyn, Margaret Thatcher’s political rise, and the introduction of Camilla Parker Bowles. Both seasons 3 and 4 of the series will be shot back-to-back, with season 3 being released in 2019.
The Crown, a Netflix original series, tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, as the fragile social order established after the Second World War breaks apart. Based on the award-winning play, “The Audience,” the series reunites creator/writer Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) with director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) and producer Andy Harries (The Queen).
