Batman: The Animated Series is coming to Blu-ray this October 16th, and it will contain lots of featurettes and a new full-length documentary with the cast and crew. There’s even a Deluxe Limited Edition with the mini Funko Pop figures. During San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Conroy (voice of Batman) shared his excitement for the Blu-ray release with Nerd Reactor, along with favorite episodes, wanting to be the Joker, and some behind-the-scenes anecdotes.

“Oh yeah! This was the original… the genesis of all the ideas,” Conroy answered Nerd Reactor when asked if he still goes back to watch episodes from Batman: The Animated series. “This was the inspiration for all the shows that followed: The Adventures of Batman and Robin, Justice League, Batman Beyond, and the Arkham games. It all started with this.”

“I love recording the games. I’m not a gamer… to be honest,” Conroy said about whether he revisits the Batman: Arkham video games. He has tried playing it though. “Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. They sort of guided me through it at Rocksteady.”

Conroy also talks about his favorite episode and project from the Batman: The Animated Series universe. “I love Perchance to Dream,” Conroy revealed. “It’s a great episode. I was really proud of the performances. And Mask of the Phantasm. That’s a really great story, and I was very proud of my performance. Batman is such an action character, but for an actor, what’s fun about playing him is his psychology. It’s what makes him so complicated… any stories that dealt with his background.”

“Mask of the Phantasm told the whole genesis of how he became Batman,” Conroy continued. “And then he falls in love with Andrea Beaumont and has to plead with his parent’s memory to release him from his vow. So he has this internal struggle going on in the movie. I love playing that. In ‘Perchance to Dream’, he goes back into his childhood after he’s drugged, and he confronts his father. So any of the stories that have dealt with the psychology of the character are ones that I have a lot of fun with.”

Batman: The Animated Series Blu-ray will release on October 16 with high-def episodes.

A Deluxe Limited Edition will retail for $112.99 and will be limited to 30,000. Three mini Funko figures (Batman, Harley Quinn, and the Joker) and seven exclusive lenticular art cards will be included.
