FX’s Fosse & Verdon series to star Michelle Williams, Sam Rockwell
FX has ordered an eight episode limited series based on the romance between Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. The series will star Oscar nominee Michelle Williams and Oscar winner Sam Rockwell in the title roles. Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton will produce alongside Thomas Kail and Steven Levenson with production set to begin this fall.
The eight part series is based on Fosse, the biography written by Sam Wasson, which tells the story of the love and collaboration between the two. Fosse was a filmmaker and legendary Broadway director/choreographer, while Verdon was a wonderful Broadway dancer. The series will feature Fosse’s choreography and focus on the hidden corners of the entertainment business.

Tommy, Steven, and Lin are the perfect team to tell the story of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon, and we’re so thrilled to have Sam and Michelle playing these iconic roles.”
Actress and daughter of Fosse and Verdon, Nicole Fosse added, “My mother and father have one of the greatest love stories ever known. They were extremely complex people with an indestructible bond, loyalty, and trust that endured both fantasy and reality. Finally, we have a creative team with the talent and wisdom to tell the story.”

But, in contrast to the well-worn myth of the visionary artist working in solitude, Fosse’s work would not have been possible without Gwen Verdon, the woman who helped to mold his style – and make him a star. We are honored to work with the incredible team at FX and Fox 21, and these two extraordinary actors, to tell the story of this remarkable couple, and the complicated, fascinating relationship between them.”
Along with starring in the series, Williams and Rockwell will executive produce. The eight episode series will be produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FXP and will debut in 2019.
