‘This Bar Saves Lives’ to launch in Starbucks nationwide

‘This Bar Saves Lives’ is about to save more lives.

On April 17, This Bar Saves Lives granola bars will be launched in Starbucks nationwide (It is currently only sold on the west coast). Starting April 17, Starbucks customers all across America can have the option to purchase a nutritional bar that changes lives with just a purchase. Every purchase of a bar will go towards food aid to a country in need.

Sounds simple enough, right? It really is.

The company was started by actors Ryan Devlin (Brothers & Sisters), Todd Grinnell (One Day at a Time), Ravi Patel (Meet the Patels), and Kristen Bell (The Good Place) when Devlin and Grinnell saw a lack of nutrition and severe starvation in children in a refugee camp in Liberia. After their trip, the group band together to form This Bar Saves Lives to combat hunger and malnutrition on a larger scale. With each purchase of a bar, they purchase a nutritional packet and donate it to their nonprofit partner Action Against Hunger. To date, the purchases have donated over 3.5 million packets around the world.

“There is so much need out there. Something has to grab you and speak to you in your heart,” said Devlin during the This Bar Saves Lives launch party on Thursday at Ysabel in Los Angeles. “This Bar Saves Lives has fulfilled a lot of that. In one aspect, we built this company with a direct giving model and that is to help kids who are suffering from severe malnutrition. So we built a very simple model to help that way, maybe for someone who isn’t able to donate a lot of money or a lot of time, so they can buy This Bar Saves Lives at Starbucks and know that a kid is getting the nutrition that he or she needs. So, that over the last few years has been an incredible driving force for me and I’ve been so passionate about.”

The partnership with Starbucks is huge for the company, as This Bar Saves Lives has already sold thousands in the few stores that currently do sell their products.

“The one dream was that someday our bars will be sold at Starbucks,” Grinnell told Nerd Reactor. “I go to Starbucks every day and to see our bars there and know that there are thousands of Starbucks selling those bars and just because of that, thousands of children will live. Literally, it’s going to save their lives. It is overwhelming. The Starbucks partnership is important to us. We’re incredibly grateful they decided to take a chance on us. It’s doing well now. This partnership is flourishing. We couldn’t be in a better place. They are the brass rings for us. The impact that Starbucks is making is immeasurable, well it’s measurable, we measure it to the packet, but it’s just incredible.”

Patel shared his joy with the Starbucks venture, “When I joined a company, I made a list of five things. Number one was Starbucks. The key is to keep it going. The team needs to do really well but I think the consumers are excited about it.”

Not only are the bars funding an important need, the bars have been taste-tested for a few years before the launch. All bars are dairy free, gluten free, fair trade, Non-GMO Project Verified and bee friendly. They also come in a variety of flavors – dark chocolate & cherry; Madagascar vanilla almond & honey; dark chocolate & peanut butter; wild blueberry & pistachio; dark chocolate & coconut; and, peanut butter & jelly.
