A portion of a Aurora Reviews interview with Jonathan Port and Rob Hewson, the creators of Hyper Sentinel...
AR: What was the motivation behind Hyper Sentinel?
JP: I grew up in the UK during the 1980s playing games on computer’s like the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. The games tended to be quick to pick up and play and the graphical limitations meant that the programmers had to be far more creative in their ideas. In the modern age of massive open world games, I felt that there was a space for a new game in the mould of the old – one that threw you straight into the action and focussed on pure fun.
RH: When we saw what Jonathan was working on, it clearly had great potential and we knew it would appeal to our community. What’s more, Jonathan’s philosophy for the game really excited us, and this eventually evolved into what we now call Neo Retro. We spent quite some time going back and fourth with feedback to improve the project before we committed to working together, and it was clear that not only were we all on the same page, but that we also worked well together as a team.
