Ellen Shanman will be adapting the sci-fi short story The Hidden Girl for Studio 8
Deadline reported today that writer Ellen Shanman has been tapped to adapt Ken Liu’s The Hidden Girl for the big screen. Studio 8 acquired The Hidden Girl a couple of years ago. The film has been described as a mixture of the award-winning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Interstellar.
Shanman most recently adapted the bestselling spy-girl book series Gallagher Girls for Paramount. She has also adapted the anime series Tiger & Bunny, the YA novel The Brokenhearted, and the non-fiction book Nothing Daunted. Ken Liu’s The Hidden Girl will have Shanman focusing on a story inspired by Chinese mythos, where it’ll focus on a team of female assassins who can travel and navigate between dimensions.
Ellen Shanman is also a published author. She has written two novels, Right Before Your Eyes and Everything Nice. Shanman adapted the latter for Charlize Theron’s production company, Denver & Delilah Productions.
Ken Liu has become one of the most prominent and innovative sci-fi and fantasy writers in recent years. Ken’s debut novel, The Grace of Kings, is the first volume in a silkpunk epic fantasy series, “The Dandelion Dynasty.” It won the Locus Best First Novel Award and was a Nebula finalist. He subsequently published the second volume in the series, The Wall of Storms as well as a collection of short stories, The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories. He also wrote the Star Wars novel, The Legends of Luke Skywalker.
