Ving Rhames cast in Cagney & Lacey reboot

Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Father Figures) will be joining the cast of the Cagney & Lacey reboot on CBS.

Rhames has been cast as Captain Stark of the LAPD, the homicide coordinator described as unflappable and a leader who inspires loyalty in everyone around him. He joins Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy) and Michelle Hurd (Blindspot, Lethal Weapon) who were cast last week for the titular roles.

The original Cagney & Lacey was a police drama, starring Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless, that ran for seven seasons on CBS from 1982-1988. It was nominated for multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Awards, with both Daly and Gless receiving Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress across the show’s run.

This reboot will be following the same premise of two female police detectives in Los Angeles who came from vastly different backgrounds. Cagney is described as empathetic and straightforward, as well as the more experienced partner, while Lacey is athletic, polished, and a former high school track and field champion

Bridget Carpenter is tasked with writing and executive producing duties for the pilot reboot. Directing the series is Rosemary Rodriguez, who will also be an executive producer. The show is produced by CBS Television Studios and MGM Television.
