Dolph Lundgren talks Aquaman and Creed 2
Action icon Dolph Lundgren (Masters of the Universe, Expendables franchise) recently spoke to the Las Vegas Review-Journal about his role in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Aquaman movie, as well as returning as Drago in Creed II!
“It is good to be king,” Lundgren said of playing King Nereus in Aquaman. “Basically, I try to keep the peace down there along with Amber Heard, who plays my daughter. She’s trying to convince me to join the right side. Then you have Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother. We’re trying to avoid war between the surface dwellers and the people of Atlantis.”

The Aquaman cast includes Jason Momoa as the titular King of Atlantis, with Amber Heard as his wife Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Ludi Lin as Murk, Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master, Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman as Atlanna and Michael Beach as Jesse Kane. Directed by James Wan from a script by Will Beall, Geoff Johns and Wan, Aquaman opens in theaters on December 21, 2018.
Lundgren also commented on reprising his iconic Rocky IV role as Ivan Drago in the forthcoming Creed II, which he is training for now.
“That was something Stallone suggested to me about a year ago,” Lundgren confirmed. “I wasn’t sure, since it’s been about 30 years. I wanted Ivan Drago to live in the past, but it turned out that the script for ‘Creed II’ was really good. All I can tell you is Ivan is back. The Russians come back over for a challenge.”
Romanian boxer Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu has been cast in the role of Ivan Drago’s son. Munteanu’s character will fight Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed in the ring. Steven Caple Jr., best known for directing 2016’s skateboarding drama The Land (starring Jorge Lendeborg Jr.), will be the new Creed II director, working from a script by Sylvester Stallone and Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker. Production will begin in Philadelphia this coming March, with a release date of November 21, 2018.
