Sophie Turner confirms 2019 premiere for Game of Thrones Season 8
It has long been rumored that the last batch of episodes for Game of Thrones won’t premiere in 2018 but will instead arrive the next year, the first time that the series hasn’t premiered a new season in successive years since it began. Speaking with Variety, star Sophie Turner confirmed fans’ worst fears, revealing the series wouldn’t be back until 2019.
The actress also spoke about her character’s place in the finale six episodes of the series, saying: “It’s going to be tricky for her, because at the end of last season, she felt that she had everything set up. She had her family back together. They were in control of the North again. This season, there’s a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it’s a test for her of whether she can get through it. It’s a big challenge for her, without this master manipulator having her back. This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight.”
When Game of Thrones returns in 2019 it will be with giant-sized episodes, previously confirmed to each be feature length.
Game of Thrones is based on the novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin. In Season 6, the TV series moved past the point where the books have stalled.
