Audible and actress Rosario Dawson (Daredevil, The Defenders) celebrated the upcoming November 14 exclusive release of the audiobook Artemis, a heist story set on the moon by The Martian author Andy Weir and performed by Dawson, with Museum of Artemis: Life on the Moon, Presented by Audible at New York Comic Con. The interactive exhibition transports visitors to the world of Artemis, a near-future thriller set in the first city on the moon. A movie version of Artemis is already in development with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, 22 Jump Street). Check out a short video of the reading by Rosario Dawson below, along with an audio clip and our tour of the Museum of Artemis in the gallery, featuring Dawson, Neil deGrasse Tyson (Cosmos) and LeVar Burton (Star Trek: The Next Generation)!

On October 5, Rosario Dawson officially kicked off the exhibition by lighting the The Museum of the Moon, a 23-foot lunar installation from British artist Luke Jerram which is on display in America for the first time ever. Suspended in air above visitors, the multisensory art piece fuses NASA surface imagery and a surround-sound lunar-inspired musical accompaniment composed by Dan Jones. Public hours for the installation are Friday, October 6 & Saturday, October 7 from 12pm – 8pm, and Sunday, October 8 from 12pm – 4pm at the Classic Car Club of Manhattan at 1 PIER 76 (408 12th Ave).

Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface. From the beginning of human history, the moon has acted as a ‘cultural mirror’ to our beliefs, understanding and ways of seeing. Over the centuries, the moon has been interpreted as a god and as a planet. It has been used as a timekeeper, calendar and to aid nighttime navigation. Throughout history the moon has inspired artists, poets, scientists, writers and musicians the world over. “Museum of the Moon” allows us to observe and contemplate cultural similarities and differences around the world, and consider the latest moon science. Depending on where the artwork is presented, its meaning and interpretation will shift.

The artwork has already been presented in Britain, Belgium, France, Hong Kong and Holland. This will be the first time the “Museum of the Moon” has been shown in the USA. Luke Jerram’s multidisciplinary practice involves the creation of sculptures, installations and live arts projects. Living in the UK but working internationally for 20 years, Jerram has created a number of extraordinary art projects which have excited and inspired people around the globe. In New York he is known for his city wide street pianos art project “Play Me I’m Yours” and his “Glass Microbiology” artworks in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
