It’s a very troubling year for the film geek community with recent accusations against geek site creators like Ain’t It Cool News’ Harry Knowles and Honest Trailers’ Andy Signore.
It first started to snowball this year when people found out that former Birth.Movies.Death’s editor-in-chief Devin Faraci was writing for Alamo Drafthouse. He left Birth.Movies.Death last year due to sexual abuse accusations, and had to resign at Alamo Drafthouse this year after it was known about his involvement.
Then Knowles, who was one of the pioneers of film blogs, was accused of sexual abuse by film fan Jasmine Baker, who told Indiewire about her 1999/2000 encounters with the man.
“Harry Knowles groped me, opportunistically, on more than one occasion,” said Baker. “I cannot just stay silent. I am not interested in remaining silent.”
Another woman, Gloria Walker, came out via Twitter against Knowles.
“On more than one occasion HK has grabbed my ass and other parts of me. I just learned to not go within grabbing distance of him,” said Walker.
ScreenCrush’s Britt Hates also chimed in on Twitter.
“Harry sexually harassed me,” Britt said. “He has sexually harassed other women in this community for years. This wasn’t an anomaly. He is a predator.”
Then there’s the film writer by the name of sick__66 who posted her interactions with Knowles. He said, “Your eyeliner makes you look good enough to eat. Obviously I’m talking cannibalism, baby. You can have my Vienna sausage anytime.”
Furthermore, former Drafthouse employee Jill Lewis said that Knowles “grabbed my arm, asked me to come closer, and then told me he was on mushrooms, and that he and his wife had been talking about wanting to see me naked, and asked me to do just that with them that night.”
And now we have Andy Signore, the creator of Honest Trailers, being accused by lots of women.
Emma Bower posted on Twitter about how Signore wanted to jack off in front of her in a message. She said, “He messaged me to say how hot I was, and tried it play it off as silly ‘lol, jacking it to you in your undies!!!’ And when I tried to brush it off, he offered me to come over so he could do it in person. I will never forget his exact words: ‘You can read a book for all I care.'”
Additionally, Devin Murphy posted about her experience with the accused about dressing sexy. She revealed on Twitter, “This started as a fan relationship until Andy had asked me about my age and if I had ever had a relationship with older men. He proceeded to tell me that older men have money, said that if I dress sexy I could have a YouTube film channel and got my email. He had asked me to prove that I was not a middle aged man posing as ‘a hot 20 sorority girl’ by dressing up in my toddlers in tiaras Halloween costume and poing with 7 fingers up. He has tried to meet up with me many times over the last 2 years in NY, New Orleans and Philadelphia etc.”
April Dawn said on Twitter that she tried to go to Screen Junkies HR to report on Signore sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions. He threatened her that if she goes public, her boyfriend would be fired.
“He took out sex toys and tried to force them in me, took pictures of me without my permission and promised a position at Screen Junkies for sexual favors,” said Dawn.
As of now, Knowles is stepping down with his sister taking over his duties, and Signore has been suspended by Defy Media.
