Star Trek: Discovery reveals behind-the-scenes footage of their props

CBS is ramping up the excitement for the upcoming Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery.

Earlier this week, CBS revealed the theme music for the series. Today, they posted a video all about the props featured on the show. From sketch to creation, the props do pay an homage to the Original Series, which is set ten years after Star Trek: Discovery. The prop makers are had to make it similar to what was seen on the Original Series and approached it as a period piece.

The Discovery phaser is considered their crowned jewel for the prop team. They tried to make it similar to the Original Series, but also add their own spin to it as well. Discovery added a more military feel to it.

Everything else, including the tricorder and communicator, has a similar look and feel to the original series, but just a bit cleaner.

The prop makers really went into details on the Klingon’s costumes and props. The Klingon weapon, the bat’leth, did not appear at all during Star Trek: The Original Series. This allowed the prop masters to really have fun with the bat’leth and create this detailed warrior piece.

The props look simply amazing.
