As we've discussed before, GameStop locations weren't letting customers buy the Switch without some sort of forced bundle option. There were all sorts of options available, but grabbing a system by itself from GameStop seemed impossible. In a quick test of this, Kotaku called a number of GameStop locations to try and buy a standalone Switch. 4 locations wouldn't let them do that, saying you had to buy a bundle with either a game or a warranty. When GameStop corporate was reached out to about this, they said the following.
“GameStop was disappointed to hear about the 4 GameStop stores that were misrepresenting our mission of providing customers the best service and products they want when visiting our stores. We appreciate Kotaku bringing this to our attention. These stores have been contacted and this should no longer be an issue.”
GameStop says it shouldn't be happening, but GameStop employees said something a bit different. One anonymous employee had the following to say about the forced bundles.
“It’s not necessarily a quota per se, but it is heavily addressed and ranked between stores in districts.”
Now which answer do you believe, the GameStop corporate response, or the word from one if their employees?
