‘Blade Runner 2049’ prequel short introduces us to Sapper Morton

Blade Runner 2049 - 2048 Nowhere to Run

Denis Villeneuve has the unenviable task of creating a sequel to Ridley Scott’s beloved sci-fi classic, Blade Runner. Not only does he have to weave a brand new story, but he has to explain what happened in the thirty years after the events of the first film. As a result, Villeneuve brought in Ridley’s son, Luke Scott, to create two of these shorts. The first short, “2036: Nexus Dawn” can be seen here.

iTunes debuted second short, entitled “2048: Nowhere to Run”. Until now, we’ve only seen a couple of short scenes with Bautista’s character. However, this short gives us more information about Bautista’s character: Sapper Morton. Ridley Scott’s son, Luke Scott (Morgan) directed the short film again. As the title suggests, the film is set a year before the new film. Check out the short below!

As we find out in the short, Dave Bautista is a replicant on the run in Los Angeles. Although replicants are still illegal (as far as we know), Bautista keeps a low profile while trying to make ends meet. Unfortunately, when trouble arrives to someone he cares about, his identity might have been revealed. This might give us a clue as to why Gosling meets up with Bautista in the trailer.

What do you think of the short? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments section below!

Blade Runner 2049 stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Jared Leto and Robin Wright. The film also stars Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, and Lennie James.

Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who’s been missing for 30 years.

Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters on October 6th.
