Back in May, Zack Snyder made the decision to step away from Justice League to a family tragedy. It was definitely an announcement bomb that rocked everyone in Hollywood. There are many that believe that Joss Whedon’s “significant” reshoots were happening because fans’ outcry to change the DCEU’s bleak tone. After all, it was Joss Whedon’s light-hearted tone in The Avengers that became a with fans everywhere.
However, these “significant” reshoots may not be as extensive as previously reported. According to Mark Hughes, the reason why these reshoots are taking so long is due to the scheduling conflicts of the entire ensemble cast. Not to mention, “the majority of the footage that you’re going to see on the screen is still the footage that was previously shot during principal photography”. In spite of all the controversy, it appears that all Joss Whedon is doing is adding bits and pieces to the film.
By all means, the scheduling conflict is a very valid reason for the long schedule of reshoots. It’s very difficult to align everyone’s schedule when other actors have other projects that they’re working on. The best example of this is Henry Cavill’s hilariously “controversial” “mustache-gate” as he’s filming Mission: Impossible 6.
It’s important to realize that extensive reshoots occurring months before a film’s release are nothing new in Hollywood. The last high-profile film to go through this was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Only time will tell if Justice League will make it out as cleanly as Rogue One did.
