Final Fantasy XV coming to Windows in 2018

Final Fantasy XV running on Windows

Final Fantasy games on PC are nothing new these days. So, it should come as no surprise Square Enix will bring Final Fantasy XV to Windows through Steam in 2018. Judging from the official press release and Steam listing, the focus will be on sharpening up the graphics. With NVIDIA as a partner, the game promises to look incredible.

The gorgeous screenshot above (made available by Square Enix) comes from the Windows version.

“With the help of NVIDIA, we are creating a stunning visual experience in FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION, one worthy of this beloved franchise,” said Hajime Tabata, Director of FINAL FANTASY XV (via the Square Enix release).

“NVIDIA pushes the pace of innovation in our industry, and that benefits gamers and developers alike.”

The updated Final Fantasy XV will feature several graphical enhancements thanks to NVIDIA:

  • NVIDIA Flow – creates vivid, combustible fluid, fire and smoke.
  • NVIDIA HairWorks – creates dynamic, life-like hair and fur for characters, animals and monsters that inhabit the game.
  • NVIDIA ShadowWorks – enables characters to cast shadows on themselves.
  • NVIDIA Turf Effects – creates life-like grass and vegetation in the game environment.
  • NVIDIA VXAO – adds depth and realism based on the physics principles shadows and light.

Furthermore, according to the Steam listing the game will be supporting “high-resolution options” and is “compatible with native 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution and HDR 10.”

“Graphical options can also be configured to support up to 8K.”

It sounds good so far, especially for those who never bought the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions. But readers might wonder if the PC version offers any extra modes.

“FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION boasts a wealth of bonus content, including content contained in free updates to the console versions as well as paid downloadable content originally available through the Season Pass.”

“Players can also explore the world of Eos through Noctis’ eyes in an all-new first-person mode.”

Unfortunately, the system requirements are not listed underneath the bonus features. Expect to need a top-of-the-line laptop or computer though. After all, the focus is on superb graphics that likely surpass the PS4 and Xbox One.

On the right-hand side of the Steam page, it does show extra information. For example, the game will offer single-player, online co-op, Steam achievements, and full controller support. Plus, it supports multiple languages.

Final Fantasy XV turned out to be immensely popular when it released last year.

According to Dreyer Smit of Neowin, “When Final Fantasy XV launched in November 2016, it quickly became the best-selling title in the franchise after it shipped over five million copies in just 24 hours of launch.”

The Windows/Steam edition should prove a popular purchase as well.
