Star Trek: Discovery beams into SDCC this week

CBS All-Access is pulling all the stops to showcase the new television series Star Trek: Discovery with a panel, art gallery, social media contest, and much more to celebrate over 50 years of sci-fi magic.

It has been twelve years since we’ve seen Star Trek on the silver screen. Now, CBS All-Access will present a new Star Trek series for new and old fans to come together and explore new worlds and lifeforms on a Starfleet ship.

For Comic-Con goers, cast members and creatives will be present for their Comic-Con appearance in Ballroom 20 on Saturday, July 22nd at 2:30 pm. Cast members scheduled to appear include Sonequa Martin-Green, Jason Isaacs, Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Anthony Rapp, and James Frain alongside executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Gretchen J. Berg, Aaron Harberts, Heather Kadin and Akiva Goldsman. The panel will be moderated by actor Rainn Wilson, who will guest star as Harry Mudd in the upcoming series.

For those without a badge, you can join in on the fun with the Star Trek: Discovery Gallery Takeover at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts Gallery (363 Fifth Avenue, San Diego). The free exhibit, running Thursday, July 20th to Sunday, July 23rd, will feature the debut of the U.S.S. Discovery Captain’s Chair, as well as additional props, costumes, sketches and more from the new series. The first one thousand fans each day will receive a complimentary, limited edition Star Trek: Discovery poster and the location will also have official Star Trek Shop with exclusive items only during Comic-Con.

Times for the gallery:

  • Thursday, Friday, and Saturday: 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM
  • Sunday: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

But, wait! There’s more!

From Thursday, July 20th to Sunday, July 23rd, CBS will offer free “intergalactic” rides throughout the Gaslamp District in pedicabs inspired by the U.S.S. Discovery’s Captain’s Chair. The pedicabs will also have video monitors built into the armrests, which will show screen trailers for the series. Look for the illuminated U.S.S. Discovery delta shield on the back!

Feel like doing a challenge? Well, Star Trek: Discovery has you covered. On Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22, fans can take part in the #TrekDiscovery Challenge throughout San Diego. Fans will encounter several authentically costumed Trek ambassadors – representing crews from the first five Star Trek TV series – The Original Series, “The Next Generation,” “Deep Space Nine,” “Voyager” and “Enterprise”. Fans who post photos of themselves with ambassadors from each of the five series’ crews – and the Star Trek: Discovery Captain’s Chair at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts Gallery – and post and tag all six photos with the #TrekDiscovery challenge hashtag on Twitter of Instagram will be eligible to win a Roku streaming stick and a subscription to CBS All Access. Prizes will come on a first come, first serve basis. Follow @StarTrek on Twitter and Instagram for clubs on where to find these crew members.
