Robert Downey Jr discusses his future as Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr iron man tony stark
Robert Downey Jr has Marvel to thank for so much. Before he put on the armor and became Iron Man, Downey Jr’s career, and life, was in rough shape, much to do with drug addiction. Marvel gave the veteran actor a chance, though, and now he’s one of the biggest names in Hollywood, raking in huge sums of money for each movie.

However, the man’s played Tony Stark for almost ten years in numerous films. There’s a strong possibility he’s getting tired of it despite the role bringing him so much fame and fortune. So, the question is: when will Downey Jr finally follow in Hugh Jackman’s footsteps and say goodbye to such a beloved character?

Downey Jr, who’s playing the role of Stark for the seventh time in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, spoke to news.com.au about his inevitable departure.

“It’s this cyclical thing,” Downey said. “I could have said when the first Avengers came out: ‘It’s never going to get any better than that. Everybody stop’. But to me, it’s always about people and opportunities, like the (Avengers directors Anthony and Joe) Russos, who I adore.”

Downey Jr elaborated on the issue and his comments really highlight the actor’s desire to make a good product. He seems to care deeply about the franchise as well as the legacy he leaves behind.

“Everyone says to me it’s like a glove that fits so well,” he says. “I have to start over every time but I am starting over with a pretty solid base. I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven (MCU movies) I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it’s embarrassing.”

Whatever Robert Downey Jr chooses, let’s hope he does it for his own happiness most of all. He’s given more than enough to the fans and franchise.

You can see him as a mentor to a young Peter Parker when Spider-Man: Homecoming premiers on July 7, 2017.
