Artwork for Super Mario Odyssey. You've probably seen a billion times by now. The gang over at CraveOnline have. Perhaps they've been looking at it too much...or just enough. According to them, Mario is showing a bit of gray hair in the image above.
They showed the image above as proof, but I have the full-res asset in our Flickr set from E3. I went in to take a closer look, and I'll be damned if there isn't something going on.
I mean, something is definitely going on right there, but what is it? Is it just a mistake in the official art, or is this actually on purpose? With how insanely detailed and high-res Nintendo's E3 art assets were this year, I'd be surprised to see a mistake like this. With that said, would Nintendo really throw in a gray hair?!
I highlighted another area in Mario's hair that I thought was worth pointing out. Looks like something is going on here too. Another mistake, or another piece of the mystery?!
Obviously this is all just for some fun discussion, and I don't take the finding seriously. That said, the gray hair idea certainly does play into the entire 4chan rumor of Mario actually being defeated/killed by Bowser in Suerp Mario Odyssey, and Cappy is actually a ghost Mario finds in the hereafter.
