Hands-on with Mega Man Legacy Collection 2

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2
The blue bomber is back and ready to take on all challengers in the upcoming Mega Man Legacy Collection 2. Capcom released the first half of the legacy collection back in 2015. (That one featured the first 6 adventures of Mega Man.) Now fans are able to check out the rest with Mega Man 7, Mega Man 8, Mega Man 9, and Mega Man 10 all in one package.

Now, these are not to be confused with the X series, as many of those did release before others in this compilation. Each game will also feature new content in the form of trials or challenges and remixed levels that should test even the battle-hardened veteran of Mega Man games.

During my hands-on time with Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, I decided to revisit Mega Man 7. I wanted something familiar other than the recently released 9 and 10. And for some reason, I had missed 8. I loaded it up and was treated to the chip tunes of the past. (It definitely flowed over me with waves of nostalgia.) Sadly, I also came to realize that I also couldn’t skip the introduction scene, something that was extremely common back in the day and a bit frustrating that it was left in the game.

When level select popped up, I chose a robot master at random and began running, jumping and shooting my way. Everything felt just as it had when I played when I was younger. But the new pause menu had new options such as a quick save, which is a godsend when it comes to Mega Man games. The quick-save feature allows you to make a temporary save regardless of where u are so that you can have a speedy load if you die. This is to prevent having to trek all the way through the level again.

Mega Man games are known for their difficulty and require the player to learn patterns, timing, and certain mechanics. This is tested in every stage and only accelerates as the player reaches the final stages. There were a bunch of other options to tinker with, but for me, I prefer my Mega Man vanilla style. So I ran through as the original game was intended.

Just like the first collection, there will also be a museum to check out cool artwork you have unlocked. In addition, the online leaderboard is present so you can show off your skills to the entire world. There is definitely a lot of value in this collection with four separate games. Each comes with their own remixed levels and trials to complete. Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 also includes alternate characters like Protoman and Bass to give the player a new way of playing some of the classics.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is scheduled to release August 8, 2017, for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
