Castlevania showrunner Adi Shankar has been named the new showrunner for Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed series. Shankar is known for his bootleg universe with shorts like Power Rangers, The Punisher short Dirty Laundry, and the Venom short Truth in Journalism. If you have seen his shorts or are familiar with his work, you will know that his unique style successfully brings a darker tone to nearly everything he touches. This could be why he was brought on to bring Netflix’s Castlevania to life.
As we all know, 2016’s Assassin’s Creed film starred Michael Fassbender and wasn’t what some would consider a blockbuster hit. But the film did gross over 240 million dollars with a budget of only 125 million earning Ubisoft a nice chunk of change. With Assassin’s Creed already having multiple games, comics, novels and a film, a series could be a nice shift from the big screen. One of the biggest complaints fans of the series had with the film was that it was too much story to pack into a 2-hour movie. A series might be a much better medium and allow seasons to follow different timelines which would make it something that fans, and people who know nothing about the game, would actually enjoy. Assassin’s Creed title game Synopsis: The Assassin’s Creed games primarily revolve around the rivalry between two ancient secret societies—the Assassins and the Knights Templar—and their indirect relation to an ancient species pre-dating humanity, referred to within the games as “those who came before”, whose society, along with much of Earth’s biosphere, was destroyed by a massive solar storm thousands of years before the games. The games’ real-world chronological setting begins in the year 2012.
