The SNES Classic is real and includes the never-before released ‘StarFox 2’

Having been rumored and speculated ever since last year’s NES Classic, the Super NES Classic has been officially announced by Nintendo today and will launch on September 29 for $79.99. Much like the NES Classic, this is a smaller version of the Super NES that comes pre-installed with 21 games as opposed to the NES Classic’s 30 pre-installed games. Don’t let that number get you down though, because included int he package are some of the best games the system has to offer:

• Final Fantasy III
• F-ZERO
• Kirby Super Star
• Kirby’s Dream Course
• The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Is there something on that list that strikes you as odd? No, you’re not going crazy: the unreleased Star Fox 2 is going to see its official debut on the Super NES Classic. This game was practically finished, but was never released on the system due to the Nintendo 64 releasing sooner than expected, and the company wanting to shift all 3D game focuses on the new console.

Fans may find this news exciting and worrisome all the same. Last year upon the NES Classic’s launch in November, Nintendo pulled the “artificial scarcity” card and only shipped a few units to stores over the course of a few months and then discontinued it this Spring. It was only meant to be a limited run, but it’s still unfortunate to see so many people unable to get the NES Classic without resorting to scalpers selling it for $500+. Just imagine how much more people are going to want the Super NES Classic if it comes with a game that has never even been released!

So a heads up to all those people who are wanting to pick one of these up: if you’re looking to get a SNES Classic, you best get your game face on, because it’s going to be tough trying to get one.
