Next month looks like a good one for Star Wars fans. On July 18, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story begins streaming on Netflix. The release marks the first time a live-action Star Wars movie has appeared on the service.
Disney executives considered the 2016 Rogue One an “experiment” to see if a standalone film in the series could find the same success. Their answer was a resounding “yes” as it entered 2017 with at least $439 million in box office sales.
The movie stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso. She leads a rag tag team of fighters on a mission to steal the Death Star plans for the Rebels. The film is void of actual Jedis, although Darth Vader does appear in some crowd-pleasing scenes.
Also on the July list is Titanic, considered by some as one of the best movies of all time. Certainly, Titanic made money with $2.187 billion in sales. The beloved love story starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose will release July 1 on the service. Get the Kleenex box ready and root for Jack to survive once more.
As for other noteworthy additions, Free Willy and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial come out on the same July 1st date, as well as the first three The Land Before Time movies.
Castlevania Season 1, based on the classic video game series, is slated for July 7.
Pretty Little Liars Season 7B (also a TV series) takes up the July 20 spot.
Needless to say, avoiding Netflix is becoming more difficult as time goes on. With a few more Star Wars movies and classics such as E.T., the streaming service will become unstoppable, if it is not already.

“As per a contract signed in 2012, next year will see the streaming service able to start hosting new releases from Walt Disney Pictures. This will inevitably see titles like Star Wars: Rogue One, Star Wars: Episode VIII and more hosted on Netflix – so perhaps that will also open the door to the original six movies becoming available.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Episode VIII) would mark the first “mainline” numbered Star Wars to hit Netflix if it comes.
