There have been so many theories and thoughts on who would make for the perfect Nathan Drake. From Bradley Cooper to Nathan Fillion, fans pined over the thought that a grizzled OLDER Nathan Drake would be perfect for a film franchise. Then Sony thought about it, and said, “Nah.”
Sony has announced that the role of Nathan Drake will go to none other than the young up and coming star, Tom Holland. Jumping on the soon-to-be success of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sony is deciding to build a second major franchise around Holland. The film will be helmed by director Shawn Levy, being redrafted as a prequel to the treasure hunting action story line in the Naughty Dog video game. Uncharted garners its inspiration from a sequence in the third iteration of the video game that focused on the young thief Drake.
According to sources, the restructuring of the franchise was an decided by Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman after seeing the latest cut of the Spider-Man film. The studio will also create a new screenplay for the new storyline, capturing the young protagonist as a treasure hunter coming into his own.
Coming on to the big screen with his performance in 2012’s The Impossible, Holland has grown into a strong performer while working alongside great actors. Showing the powers that be that he is more than capable, Holland scored the role of the Web-slinger in last year’s Marvel smash hit, Captain America: Civil War. Now, with his solo film coming up in July, Holland has created a name for himself, and will definitely be one to look out for as the next generation of greats in Hollywood.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, and Robert Downey Jr., is set to swing its way into theaters July 7.
