Far Cry 5 revealed, set to launch 2017-2018 fiscal year

Far Cry 5
With it being one of Ubisoft’s most popular franchises, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing another Far Cry game. Revealed right before an earnings call for the French-Canadian company, they stated that we would learn more about Far Cry 5 “very soon.” We’ll probably see this at a little event next month where video game announcements tend to be the hot topic (E3). The game is set to launch in the 2017-2018 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2018.

Now, all we know about Far Cry 5 is the title, logo color, and that it’s most likely going to be another open world shooter. What we don’t know on the other hand is the setting and time period. After Far Cry 3, the series saw an immense boost in popularity which lead to a new installment every other year. Far Cry 4 was set in the Himalayas and last year’s Far Cry: Primal was set in 10,000 B.C. in Proto-Native Europe. So where could they go from here?

Vaas, the infamous villain from Far Cry 3. Don’t expect to see him return anytime soon.

Far Cry 5 in the Old West?

Well, there has been some rumors going around that Far Cry 5 will be set in the Old West. If that’s the case, it will be the third game being released this year to have a Western theme. The other two games being Red Dead Redemption 2 and upcoming PC MMO Wild West Online. Although, if you look at the title, the font is in blue and red. When most people think Wild West, red and blue aren’t the colors that come to mind. Perhaps it’s a contemporary Western, where you play as a cop in the modern times. Think of films like No Country for Old Men and Hell or High Water set in modern times but with Western themes.

For now, all anyone can do is theorize until E3, where Far Cry 5 gameplay will most likely be revealed.
