It’s been a few years (almost 3 to be exact) since it was confirmed that Dwayne Johnson would be taking on the character of Black Adam in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). From then, we haven’t really heard much at all in regards his role or the Shazam film. The only thing close to anything was an Instagram post from Christmas, where Johnson was having a drink with Henry Cavill aka Superman.
In a recent interview with Fandango while promoting his upcoming Baywatch film, Johnson did drop a few details about Black Adam that should get fans excited:
“It’s definitely going to happen, sure. We’ve had great conversations with Geoff Johns and everyone over at DC. It’s an exciting time right now for everyone at DC because they are in a process now where they are building out [their DC universe] really nicely. We have a really cool surprise for Black Adam that I can’t reveal, in terms of where we will see Black Adam being introduced.”
So could that mean he will be making a cameo appearance in an upcoming DCEU film? I’d assume so given that response he made. I guess now the question is, which film will it be? Wonder Woman is too close around the corner for him to show up in, as well would be kind of disjointed that he’d be there. Next in line is Justice League, and the most viable option (in my opinion) to debut him. After that is Aquaman, which could hold some sort of Easter Egg as well.
One more thing to note from the interview was when he was asked about a putting a potential “smackdown on Superman.” Johnson responded with:
“One fine day…that’s coming. That’s in the cards.”
This is probably the part that had me the most excited, a throw-down with the Man of Steel. If you’ve watched Batman V Superman, then you’re probably thinking “isn’t he dead though?” Yea…about that…spoiler. Either way, I can’t wait to see how this unfolds and hope we get some more info on Black Adam soon as well. Are you excited to see Dwayne Johnson appear as Black Adam?
