Dunkirk seems like it’s going to be the most different from director Christopher Nolan’s other films. Usually his films involve a lot of mystery and a surprise twist at the end. This film will most likely ditch that to capture the horrors of war. Warner Bros. has released a new Dunkirk trailer, which you can check out below.
The film takes place during the Battle of Dunkirk during World War II in 1940. It took place in Dunkirk, France, where the British and Allied forces fought against the German army in order to evacuate. Over 330,000 Allied soldiers made it to safety.
The trailer gives us a sense of doom as the Germans attack from above. The British soldiers are stranded on the beach. And we see a few brave civilian British coming together to try to save their brethren in Dunkirk. We also get scenes of Tom Hardy as a pilot, Cillian Murphy as a soldier who doesn’t want to go back to the beach, and Mark Rylance as a sailor who is willing to sacrifice himself to help his countrymen.
Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar) is the director of the film. It stars Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins), Mark Rylance (The BFG), Aneurin Barnard, Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient Express), Harry Styles (member of boy band One Direction), and James D’Arcy (Marvel’s Agent Carter).
Dunkirk at CinemaCon
Nolan presented his film during CinemaCon and previewed scenes from the film.
“Dunkirk and the legend of it is something that British people grow up with – it’s in our DNA,” said Nolan to CinemaCon attendees. “The idea of taking this paradoxical situation and putting it on the big screen… it’s something that’s been close to my heart for some time. It’s something I didn’t think I was ready to do.”
From what we saw, it looks like Nolan is going to deliver on a solid war film.
Dunkirk hits theaters on July 21, 2017.
