We finally have an update on Cable! …Sort of. Several days ago, it was reported that David Harbour (Netflix’s “Stranger Things”) was the favorite to play Cable but now things have changed. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Michael Shannon is now the frontrunner on Fox’s shortlist. Shannon was in the previously in the mix but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. The Oscar-nominated actor recently signed on for the indie What They Had, a film that starts shooting this spring.
Shannon is no stranger to comic book movies. He played General Zod in Man of Steel and Doc Cross Williams in Jonah Hex. Those who are rooting for David Harbour should fret not. The “Stranger Things” star is still on Fox’s shortlist.
Whoever does inevitably take on the role of Nathan Summers, they will be joining Ryan Reynolds who is reprising his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, and Zazie Beets as Domino.
In the comics, Nathan Summers is the future son of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor-Summers. He is a powerful mutant telepath and a telekinetic user who was used by Mr. Sinister as a weapon against Apocalypse. Apocalypse eventually infected Cable with the Techno-Organic Virus. He was sent to the future to get treatment and became a hardened soldier and gifted tactician.
Back in 2004, Marvel introduced the popular “Cable & Deadpool” series that is the primary inspiration for this team-up.
