Netflix casts Channing Tatum in their first animated film America: The Motion Picture
Netflix, the streaming service that has been so successful with their original series, is taking on animation next. They’ll be financing their very first major animated feature film called America: The Motion Picture, according to Deadline. Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Magic Mike) will voice the role of George Washington in this “R-rated revisionist history tale about the founding of the country.” The script was written by Dave Callaham (The Expendables franchise). Matt Thompson will direct. Callaham and Thompson will produce along with Floyd County’s Adam Reed (Thompson and Reed are responsible for the series Archer.) Tatum will produce with Free Association with partners Peter Keirnan and Reid Carolin. The LEGO Movie‘s Phil Lord and Chris Miller will produce from Lord Miller with Will Allegra.
There is little information on America: The Motion Picture so far, but with the guys behind Archer, Sealab 2021, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and The LEGO Movie on board, there is considerable experience with the genre. Callaham is also known for writing the upcoming Zombieland 2, and is a showrunner for Amazon’s Jean-Claude Van Johnson. Lord and Miller are directing the upcoming Han Solo standalone film starring Tatum’s Hail, Caesar! co-star Alden Ehrenreich as Han and Danny Glover as Lando Calrissian. They’re also writing the LEGO movie sequel.
Tatum was the voice of Superman in The LEGO Movie, and has voiced himself, as well as his character Magic Mike on The Simpsons and the video game Family Guy: The Quest For Stuff, respectively.
