If you’ve taken a look at Robert Downey Jr.’s IMDB page recently, you’ve probably noticed that the actor will be playing Iron Man in his next 27 movies after already playing him in 45 other films. Of course, I exaggerate, but the man must be getting tired of playing the same character over and over. Luckily, Richard Linklater is coming to the rescue…as he does. According to Variety, Downey Jr. will reunite with Linklater for a film based on “Man of the People”, a recent episode from the Reply All podcast from Gimlet Media.
The untitled project will be based on the true story of Dr. John Brinkley, a charlatan who scams his way to fame using fake medicine, populism and radio, and Dr. Morris Fishbein, the editor of the journal of the AMA who begins a quest to take down Brinkley.
This isn’t the first time the actor and director have collaborated on a film. The pair teamed up for the trippy, rotoscoped 2006 film A Scanner Darkly based on the science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick.
Megan Ellison and Annapurna Pictures will partner with Susan Downey and Robert Downey Jr.’s Team Downey production company to produce the upcoming film while Linklater will co-produce through his Detour Filmproduction banner with Gimlet Media’s PJ Vogt, Tim Howard and Chris Giliberti.
