What’s it like to live in a dystopian future where America’s unwanted (criminals, illegal immigrants, etc.,) are dumped off into a Texas desert wasteland to live out the rest of their miserable lives? Acclaimed writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour’s The Bad Batch helps take you through this post-apocalyptic budding love story. Being in a desert and that food is scarce to come by, the easiest sustenance to come by is…well…humans.
The story follows newcomer Suki Waterhouse’s character as she tries to survive the barren lands and cannibals. It appears that at some point, she runs into potential love interest Jason Momoa, and together they take on Keanu Reeves who seems to be the leader of the cannibals. As if it wasn’t enough, the films also stars Diego Luna, Giovanni Ribisi, Yolanda Ross, and even Jim Carrey.
I can honestly say that after watching the trailer, it really intrigues me. It feels like a mix of Mad Max: Fury Road and The Hills Have Eyes. One thing to note is that this film has already premiered at both the Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. Its official theatrical release in the U.S. will be on June 23, 2017.
