Anime Los Angeles recap: Masquerade

Masquerades are always my favorite part of conventions. I used to watch videos of skits way back in the day when I didn’t even know I could possibly go to conventions myself. Ever since then, when I finally got the chance to go a con, I made the effort to go check out the masquerade show. And yes, I used to dream up my own super intense skits! They never happened, but hey, you never know.

Recently, I got the chance to go to Anime Los Angeles. And, damn right! I watched the masquerade! I haven’t been to a convention in a long time and ALA definitely made up for all of that.

The skits, the costumes, the humor, and even our host, made the entire experience worth it. People really seemed to go all out with some of their costumes and a lot of people hyped up the LED lights trend. I loved every second of it!

Anytime we had a waiting gap, our host would pull through and tell a story or some jokes. He kept us all very entertained especially during times it felt awkward. If someone needed to redo a skit, he was there to help. It was just overall, really cool to have a host that cared and put in effort throughout the entire show.

Not only was the host great, but the halftime show was spectacular. Jason Charles Miller played for us. He has worked on True Blood and Teen Beach Movie and with artists like Marilyn Manson and Evanescence. How cool is that? He made a comment that he was just the time filler, but after seeing him perform, I would 100% attend one of his concerts if I had the chance. Maybe it was just my preference of genre, but regardless, he was great!

Now the best part of the whole thing were the costumes. Sadly, I didn’t take a lot of pictures because I tend to keep my phone in my bag at concerts and such. Fortunately, I found this video where you can watch the whole thing to allow you to have the same experience and see everything amazing.

My favorite part? Well, let’s start with the amazing Moana performance at about an hour, eight minutes, and twelve seconds in. I loved her costume and her dancing! It was so good, and anything using the Moana soundtrack is just gold.

And let’s not forget the part at an hour, 2 minutes, and 52 seconds. It was the funniest of the night, at least for me. Check it out for yourself.

In general, the masquerade this year at ALA was great. Everyone’s costumes were fantastic, they picked the right choice for the entertainer, and landed the perfect host. Even the AMVs at the pre-show was so good. I am definitely looking forward to next year’s masquerade at Anime Los Angeles.

What was your favorite part?
