Amazon customers receiving odd emails about their Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U orders

If you ordered The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Wii U from Amazon, keep an eye on your email. Multiple customers have been receiving emails with the following info.

"The item(s) you ordered is not yet released. We will notify you of a specific delivery date when one is available."

We're not quite sure what that means. If you try to grab a retail copy of the Wii U version now, you can see that it's currently unavailable. Is it sold out, or is something else going on?
