Today’s announcement from Playtonic Games, the developers of Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor Yooka-Laylee, comes with a mix of emotions. The good news is that the game will launch on April 11, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac and Linux for $39.99! It seems like only yesterday when its Kickstarter campaign made headlines back in 2015. Anyone who pre-orders the game now will have access to the Yooka-Laylee Toybox, a small, pre-alpha PC demo of the game previously exclusive for Kickstarter backers. A console version is also in the works.
Released also was a new trailer showcasing a level called the Capital Cashino, full of bright lights, pretty gems, and life-sized casino games.
Now for the bad news, the Wii U version of the game has been cancelled due to “unforeseen technical issues.” This might be for the best considering the Wii U is a console heading towards its grave thanks to the Nintendo Switch. Speaking of Switch, Playtonic also stated that they’re working closely with Nintendo to possibly bring the game over to the Switch.
Any Kickstarter backer who chose the Wii U version of the game will be able to swap out with any other version (maybe even the Switch) at no additional charge. This will begin in January when they figure out the best solution to make the transition.
