The Little Acre is a touching 2D-animated adventure game

I’m a casual fan of point-and-click adventures, so there are a few that will really get my attention. The Little Acre is one such game that hooked me instantly with its use of hand-drawn animation and a touching story about a father and daughter trying to find each other.

The game is inspired by the world of Miyazaki and animation legend Don Bluth (An American Tail, The Land Before Time, Dragon’s Lair). Set in 1950s Ireland, Aidan is on a quest to look for his missing father, and it turns out to be a bad idea. He discovers a machine that can transport him into another world filled with weird creatures and puzzles. Aidan is now missing, and his daughter, Lily, decides to search for him. Will father and daughter reunite in the crazy world?

The gameplay is your typical point-and-click adventure, so don’t expect anything groundbreaking in that department. There will be puzzles where you’ll need to find one item that will correlate with another. There are some puzzles where you’ll need to plan your steps in order to proceed. The wonder comes from the different creatures you’ll meet and the tale of the adorable Lily and her father solving puzzles and outwitting the other world’s inhabitants. Developer Pewter Games has done a wonderful job of bringing life to the 2D characters, and I wish more games would follow in its footsteps. Let’s hope it will help out with that.

Check out the launch trailer below.

The Little Acre is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
