The concept of Android Auto or Carplay “infotainment” systems in cars is great for tech nerds like me. However, the price tag for them or the possibility of buying a select new car with that feature is a little outside this millennial’s budget range. Well Google has heard the call from others like me and has made Android Auto available on Android phones – no in-dash equipment required.
Google announced this week that they were making Android Auto available to anyone with an Android phone running Android 5.0 or newer. All users need to do is download the Android Auto app on their compatible phones and they are set.
Once the app is installed, users can open it before they begin driving giving them info displayed like Google Now Cards, such as travel times, recent calls and more. Enlarged buttons allow for easy access to navigation and Google Music as well. It appears that you still have to push the mic button for voice commands – as opposed to saying “Ok Google…” – but even with out that, this is a pretty awesome feature to have with out paying the premium price.
