Robert Kirkman wants different endings for The Walking Dead comic book and TV show

A big question, regarding both the comic book version and the TV version of The Walking Dead, that still remains is this: when and how will they both end. If the show keeps using the source material for its stories, then it should go on for a long time, and there’s no indication that the comic book itself will end anytime soon. Regarding how they’ll end, creator Robert Kirkman had some interesting things to say.

Recently, Kirkman spoke on the AMC show Geeking Out to help promote the October 23rd premiere of The Walking Dead. He refuted a rumor that he wanted to end the comic book series and the TV show at the same time. He then went into further detail regarding their endings.

“I hope the show ends and the comic keeps going,” Kirkman said. “The comic was the comic before the show and so I try to maintain that. Like I know how I want to end The Walking Dead and so I can’t tell…anyone because I don’t want it on the show before I get it in my comic. So it’s tough, it’s tough. If the show were to ever end, ever, at any point and the comic was still going I would have to sit down with Scott [Gimple] and pretend I have no idea how to end it and then work with him to try and come up with a new ending.”

His methods are a little different from writer George R.R. Martin whose A Song of Ice and Fire book series has been surpassed by the Game of Thrones TV series. Though he apologized for his comments, Kirkman expressed disappointment with how Martin feeds information to Game of Thrones producers.
“That’s the one thing I’m disappointed in George R.R. Martin for doing,” he said. “He should have just been like, ‘F—k you. You make it up now, I’ll get to mine when I’m ready.’”
Of course, most fans won’t find it shocking that Kirkman would make two different endings considering all the changes that have already been made from book to show. Whatever the endings may be, let’s just hope they’re good and do justice to the stories and characters that have proceeded them.
