Christopher Lloyd turns 78 years old today. Star Trek fans think fondly of Lloyd thanks to his memorable turn as the formidable Commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. To celebrate his birthday, we at StarTrek.com thought we'd share 5 Things You Need to Know About Christopher Lloyd.
- The actor may be best known to Trek fans for his performance as Kruge, but his most-popular non-Trek roles include Rev. Jim Ignatowski on Taxi, Uncle Fester in The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit and, of course, Emmett "Doc" Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy.
- Lloyd was born in Stamford, Connecticut, and raised in New Canaan. His grandfather was Lewis Henry Lapham. Lapham was one of the co-founders of the oil company Texaco.
- Lloyd made his movie debut in a classic. He portrayed the mental patient Max Taber in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
- What movie featured the involvement of Lloyd, as well as Trek icons Patrick Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg and Leonard Nimoy, as well as Voyager guest star Ed Begley, Jr.? That'd be The Pagemaster, a live-action/animated fantasy film released in 1994. Also in that film, veteran voiceover actor Frank Welker, who lent his talents to the videogames Star Trek: Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates, Star Trek: Starfleet Command: Volume II: Empires at War and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, voiced an alien for the Voyager episode "Nothing Human" and even provided the Spock screams in The Search for Spock.
- Lloyd's upcoming projects include a remake of the comedy-drama Going in Style and also Cold Moon, a horror film.
