After the success of Pokémon Go, Sony chief executive Kaz Hirai has said that Sony will be “aggressively” entering the mobile game market.
“[Mobile gaming] is something we are aggressively getting into,” Hirai told the Financial Times. “It’s quite a shift from being just a console-based business to being on mobile phones as well.”
Hirai continues to say that “Pokémon Go is a real game-changer,” he explained. “I’m very interested in the fact that it has the potential to really change the way people move, literally.”
“[It is an] innovative idea that’s going to lift all boats for the video game industry.”
Sony has already striked a deal with mobile game developer, ForwardWorks, to produce all of Sony’s mobile games with AR capabilities.
According to Hirai, “[ForwardWorks] will leverage the intellectual property of the numerous PlayStation dedicated software titles.”
So far ForwardWorks has not announced a game but with the Tokyo Game show coming soon, we will be sure to expect some sort of news.
Would you guys play a mobile Sony game that introduce characters such as Nathan Drake, Cole McGrath, or the widely missed Crash Bandicoot? Comment your thoughts here.
